# The Alto Clef & String Clefs, Music theory

Treble, bass, alto, and tenor clef fluency

String players encounter more clefs than almost anyone else in the orchestra. This module builds fluency in all four common clefs, with special focus on the alto clef (the viola's home) and tenor clef (used by cello in high positions). Every lesson ties directly to reading real string parts.

Beginner · 5 lessons · approximately 72 minutes of material (not a mastery deadline).

## Where should I start with the alto clef & string clefs?
The curriculum places Modes & Advanced Scales before this module. Review those topics if they are unfamiliar. The first lesson is “The Four Clefs”: Treble, bass, alto, and tenor, when and why each is used. The order is a study guide, not proof that every learner needs the same pace.

## How long is the the alto clef & string clefs module?
The 5 listed lessons total approximately 72 minutes of material. That estimate describes lesson content, not the practice time needed to become comfortable with treble, bass, alto, and tenor clef fluency.
