AMEB Comprehensive preparation includes technical work, studies and pieces, plus supporting skills according to the level and syllabus. Arco’s allocation of practice time is its own planning policy, not an AMEB mark split. Use the current purchased syllabus and your state office’s guidance for exact requirements.

## Before you build a plan

- Confirm the current cello syllabus and any transition arrangements before selecting material.

- Keep technical work, studies and pieces, and supporting skills visible in your week.

- Check theory requirements, enrolment details and examination arrangements with your state office.

- Arco’s current cello package range is Grades 3–8; it does not imply that AMEB starts at Grade 3.

## Original exercise: Explain a musical decision

1. Choose a short passage from a piece you are preparing and identify its key, metre and one expression marking.

2. Explain the expression marking in plain language, then play a version that follows it.

3. Play a deliberately contrasting version and describe exactly what changed in the sound.

### Check your work

A useful explanation connects a musical term to an audible decision, such as softer dynamics or a more detached articulation. If the term or historical context is uncertain, mark it for teacher confirmation rather than inventing an answer.

## A common mistake

A general-knowledge answer learned by rote can remain disconnected from playing. Demonstrate the effect in your own prepared music.
